This past month has left us speechless. We felt like we were waking up in a nightmare. We found ourselves dazed, anxious and restless. Last week left us as worried and troubled and angry as we know each of you are. We tried to put our thoughts together in some meaningful way, tried to muster some powerful statement to inspire, agitate, bring hope. Alas, no words came to our rescue. These feelings overcome language.
So, last week we did what we have been doing for four years and will continue doing until we never have a week like last one again. We trained our organizing fellows. We rallied and held healing spaces in Miami, Broward, St Petersburg, and Gainesville. We supported similar action across the state. We knocked on doors in Opa Locka, FL and held a strategy session with our Miami leaders.
In short, we kept on organizing -- for our future, for our people, for our liberation.
It has been said that we do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children. If we seek only short term change, reactionary revolution -- we leave little to nothing for them. In order to practice effective, long term change, we cannot ignore the necessity of sustainability. We are in it for the long haul, and need your support. We do not take lightly the mantle of being your champion, and we ask that you strengthen us in our efforts by making a donation today.
Today is a new day. A new week is upon us and better days are ahead. We need each other now more than ever. The words may never come, but our actions will speak for themselves. For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives and the dream shall never die.
Lastly, for those who are able, we ask that you donate and become a monthly sustainer of Dream Defenders to support us in continuing to organize our communities in fighting against the over policing, over incarceration and under education of poor Black and Brown people. We cannot continue without your support.
Thank you for the love and for your commitment to fighting with us. Join us in our fight for the liberation of our people. We certainly don’t have all the answers but together, we know we can imagine, fight for and build another way of living and being in community with one another.

Here are some ways that we can do together:
Join the Dream Defenders or another local organization in your community committed to fighting for racial justice, including BYP100, The Black Live Matter Network, Hands Up United, Ohio Students Association, Moviemiento Cosecha, and Showing Up for Racial Justice
Take the Movement for Black Lives Pledge and get connected to the national network being built to fight for the dignity of Black people
Take a break from social media and connect with those around you. The constant consumption of images and stories of our people being beaten and killed is hurting us. We need to connect offline in order to build the real power needed to win. We encourage folks to log off and instead, plan spaces to bring your friends, family and community together to talk about how we are feeling and and find ways to take care of ourselves and eachother.
Watch your favorite movie. Read your favorite book. Put on some music and dance. The state does not want us to love ourselves and eachother. We can fight back by finding ways to be in joy and resilience with one another. Laughing is a form of resistance. Check out the Black Joy Project to learn more.
Organize, organize, organize. Join us in continuing to build a long term strategy for change. Knock on doors. Talk to your neighbors. Come together with those you love to imagine what a different world can look like and build a collective path forward to manifest it.
