No one is going to give you the education you need to overthrow them. Nobody is going to teach you your true history, or teach you your true heroes because they know that knowledge will help set you free.

We face triple jeopardy in our schools.  We are killed and arrested there, we have no  investment there, and – if we do – we are miseducated there.  Our teachers dig in their pockets to make a difference, their curriculums have been bled out to teach standardized testing instead of critical thinking, and lawmakers have defunded the arts programs that grow our imaginations. On top of all that, after the politicians said they didn’t have money for  books, they announce they have money to arm every teacher with a gun. Their priorities are all the way off. We need more counselors, not more weapons.

Corporations have all but completed their takeover of our schools. In 2016, the wealthy elite passed a bill to overwhelm our neighborhoods with unreliable, unregulated, corporate-run private charter schools. They even see our children as piggybanks. People like Betsy Devos are transforming public schools into businesses that focus on their bottom line and that means teaching generations of children to follow their leaders instead of building and creating a new Florida.  They don’t want our children to be whole, well-rounded, compassionate adults; adults that will question and resist. Hell, they can’t even keep us from getting killed inside our schools.

True education is a right, not a debate.  Our children are treasure and the future creators of our lives.

By virtue of being born, each of us has the absolute right to fully-funded, free public education that fosters critical thinking, art, and wellness from Pre-K through college, the end of standardized testing, and raises for all public school teachers.
